The Man Who Planted Trees (1987) HOME
Toward the end of his life, he lost the habit of speech.  Or
perhaps it was that he saw no need for it  -
Christopher Plummer
1 2 3 H Honorable Mention  (Top 3 Animated Shorts Films)

Christopher Plummer narrated the English version, Fernando Rey the Spanish version and Philippe Noiret the French version.
A Renoir painting for comparison to the animation style
The story and characters are fictional. Won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short in 1987.

No greater than it seems, but as great as it is - meaning straightforward, epic and eloquent storytelling.

The animation itself does not wow, although the painstaking creation process does, which is a labor of love similar to the undertaking of the story’s protagonist.  The style is pleasing, like Renoir paintings brought to life.

Meaningful character observations and better-world contemplations draw you in emotionally.  By story end you feel the time was well spent.
